The final of the $15,200 Racing Queensland Young Guns Series (520m) is the feature event on the ten race card at Albion Park on Thursday night.
It is set to be a thrilling battle, with plenty of quality talent engaged and no less than seven chasers under double-figure odds in the early fixed odds market.
Leading trainer Tony Brett has qualified half of the finalists, with four of his five nominated chasers progressing through from last week’s heats.
Brett’s quartet is headed by Group 3 Townsville Cup winner Zabdon Ferrari, who produced another solid performance to take out his heat last week in 30.11 defeating kennelmate Aston Jadore by three quarters of a length.
Zabdon Ferrari, currently $4.50 second favourite with UBET, will be looking for his sixth win in a row but has come up with a slightly awkward draw in box six. Aston Jadore will go around as a $9 chance from box four.
Littermates Split Image (box three, $7.00) and Thirty Talks (box seven, $2.75 favourite) make up the remainder of Brett’s contingent. The latter was the fastest qualifier, clocking 29.91 on a rain affected track, leading all of the way. He will need to begin well on Thursday night however, particularly with quality chaser Tripum ($8.00) drawn on his outside. Split Image was gallant in defeat, being run down late by the Glenda Dart-trained Ceaser De Kahn (box two, $9.00).
Bubble Guppy (box one, $7.00) and Logan City (box five, $34) round out the Young Guns field, with Premier Jet and Smashniak Marcy the reserves.
Elsewhere on the program, impressive maiden winner Lucid Dreaming (Darren Russell) will be looking to make it two wins from two starts in race two. The son of Bekim Bale recorded a slick 30.29 on debut and lines up from box three looking for his novice win. His main challengers appear to be last start maiden winner Klompus (Serena Lawrance, box two) and Lika Brewsky (Bob Giltinan, box five) who will be looking for his third win on end after his maiden heat and final win the past two Monday nights.
The ten race Young Guns card commences at 6:42pm, with the $10,220-to-the winner feature to be run as race eight, at 9:11pm.
