Thursday night at Albion Park sees two heats of the Molly Campbell Memorial Silver Dollars as part of the 10 race card. The age-restricted race for greyhounds aged 27 months or younger sees some of the better up and coming greyhounds in the South East Queensland area line up for a shot at next week’s $14,250 final.
The first heat, Race 5, sees recent Group 3 Gold Coast Cup fourth placegetter Cash In Motion start from box 1. The Robert Cooke trained daughter of Smooth Fancy and Teddy’s Jackpot clocked 29.79 in the heat of that Group 3 series three starts ago and a repeat of that performance should see her figure in the finish Thursday night. She will take on Smart Spirit (Ray Burman) a dead heat winner here at headquarters two weeks ago, and Magical Yessam (Greg Stella) who will be looking to add to his 4 start winning sequence which included a Novice win at Albion Park on the 1st of October.
Also featuring in heat one is recent Eric Thomson Memorial Maiden winner Fabulous Bill (William Elson) and 29.97 Albion Park winner Marluca (Selena Zammit)
The second and final heat, Race 6, includes other Eric Thomson Maiden finalists Top Prosecutor (Neil Catchpole) and Rhythmic Earner (Peter Ruetschi) both of whom have impressed in recent wins. Top Prosecutor recorded a slick 30.01 win last Thursday night in defeating Fabulous Bill and Ruetschi’s charge, Rhythmic Earner cruised around Ipswich for a 30.83 win on Saturday night to break her maiden status. Both greyhounds look to have bright futures and should feature in this event.
Looking to knock off the fancied runners will be Alpha Theseus for Selena Zammit, a recent 30.57 Ipswich winner and a 29.87 winner at Albion Park late last month. Also opposing will be Mark Saal’s consistent Taser Shock who has won 3 times at Albion Park and Ray Burman’s Ima Cowboy, who won here last time out in 30.57.
The first four placegetters in each heat will advance to the final next Thursday night, October 29.
In race 1, Tony Brett produces Anykey (Spring Gun x Key Exit), an impressive 30.23 winner on debut earlier this month. The black dog is a half-brother to Brett’s multiple Group 1 winner Keybow who will go around in the Topgun at The Meadows Saturday night and the youngster will be looking to improve his record to two wins from as many starts.
The first of ten races kicks off at 6:40pm.
