Leading trainer Bill Elson’s star pair Cyndie’s Magic and Fabulous Bill headline another quality night of racing at Albion Park this Thursday night.
The pair, progeny of super producer Regal Silver, came close to providing the Elson family a feature race double on last week’s star-studded Gold Cup card with Fabulous Bill taking out the Listed UBET Flying Amy Classic (520m) and Cyndie’s Magic finishing only behind Sydney chaser My Boy Brodie in the Group 1 UBET Gold Cup (710m).
While the feature racing takes a break this week, both chasers will tune up for their respective assignments later in the Winter Carnival with runs this week.
Cyndie’s Magic, selected yesterday for Thursday week’s Listed Superstayers Invitational, lines up in the open grade 710m event, race three. She will start from box five. Her litter sister Abby’s Magic (box one) and Joanne Price’s veteran stayer Mullaway (box four) look the major rivals.
Fabulous Bill will look to win his fifth race in a row as he prepares for a likely tilt at next month’s Group 1 Winter Cup (520m). The pacey son of Fabregas, like his half-sister, starts from box five in the best eight event, race eight. He will again contend with a quality field which includes Sandown Speed Star runner-up Outside Pass (Tony Apap, box four), Queensland Cup winner Norm The Storm (Mathew Reid, box two), the in-form Show Bound (Shane Ellis, box eight) and kennelmate Lauryn’s Best (box six).
Also on the card, the Rusty Dillon trained Fast Azz El will look to make it four wins from five starts to kick off her career when she jumps from box eight in the final event on the card. The daughter of Milldean Panther and El Fooling was a finalist in the Dave Brett Memorial Maiden earlier this year. She takes on the George Kadniak-trained Smashniak Smash (box two), runner up in the aforementioned Maiden event last month. Tony Brett’s Zabdon Lambo (box three) has been racing in fine form, taking out the Capalaba Derby (366m) recently. The son of Magic Sprite and Awesome Knocka has a 30.28 win to his name at headquarters and cannot be discounted.
Off the track, the action continues with week three of the UBET Winter Carnival Tipping Challenge, with tipsters doing battle for a share in $4,000 worth of prizes.
The ten race card kicks off at 6:47pm.
