Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Final Preview

27 October 2015

The final of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars series for greyhounds under 27 months of age is the feature race on Thursday night’s ten race Albion Park card. Finalists qualified out of two heats last week and will be racing for the $9835 winner’s cheque.

The two heat winners, Alpha Theseus (Selena Zammit) and Cash In Motion (Robert Cooke) have drawn beside each other in boxes 1 and 2.   That would appear to make it a two-act affair however Alpha Theseus is not ideally drawn on the inside and should Cash In Motion beat it out of the boxes it makes the job for Alpha Theseus immediately tougher. Given that both produced sub-30 second runs in the heats it is likely that they will dominate the market.

Should the favourites find trouble, two greyhounds who could be poised to strike are Ray Burman’s Smart Spirit, and Marluca who is also trained by Selena Zammit. Smart Spirit produced an fast-finishing two and a quarter length second to Cash In Motion last week and if he is with the leaders coming out of the back straight he could figure in the finish. Marluca hasn’t featured of late, but has run 29.97 at Albion Park previously and a return to something near that form would see her somewhere near the finish at the business end of proceedings.

Rounding out the field are Ratatat and Taser Shock, both for Mark Saal in boxes 4 and 5, Ima Cowboy for Ray Burman who also has the aforementioned Smart Spirit in box 7 and the first reserve, Magical Yessam for Greg Stella gets a start from box 6 with the scratching of Top Prosecutor.

In other races on the card, Race 5 sees Cervelo (Peter Ruetschi) return to headquarters for a 4th and 5th grade after a solid second to Sydney pup Nymeria in the John Stollery final at Lismore.

The top grade race on the program, Race 8, sees Frank Hancock’s Lady Abigail take on Lismore Cup 2nd and 4th placegetters in Miners Moss (Mathew Reid) and Fabulous Storm (Reg Hazelgrove). Lady Abigail sizzled around the Lismore circuit in a Non Graded event Friday, clocking 29.83, just .05 outside the record held by Cosmic Rumble.

In the final event, Stephen Rolph’s Anti Dentite will try to make it 5 wins on end in the 5th grade.

The first of ten events kicks off at 6:40pm with the final of the Molly Campbell to be run as Race 7, at 8:55pm.
