Field for 2016 Superstayers Invitational confirmed

The Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club (BGRC) today announced the invitees for the Listed Superstayers Invitational (710m) to be run on Thursday 23 June at Albion Park.

The selection panel reviewed performances from the recent Group 1 UBET Gold Cup series and other staying events throughout the country.

The four invitees are Cyndie’s Magic (William Elson), Luna Jinx (Tony Brett), My Boy Brodie (Trevor Rice) and Ring The Bell (Gerard O’Keeffe).

Cyndie’s Magic has built an imposing record over both sprint and staying journeys, highlighted by runner-up performances in last year’s Group 1 Brisbane Cup (520m) behind Dyna Double One, and behind My Boy Brodie in last week’s Group 1 Gold Cup (710m).  She is a winner of four races over the 710m journey at Albion Park and was a finalist in last year’s Gold Cup and Superstayers Invitational.

Luna Jinx was winner of the 2015 Group 1 Superstayers at the Meadows in Melbourne and has been a finalist in four other Group 1 events including last year’s Albion Park Gold Cup and last month’s Sandown Cup.   She is a winner of twenty-six races over 700+ metres at various tracks throughout the country.

My Boy Brodie has proved a revelation since being stepped up to distance racing, winning six of his last ten over the journey including five in a row, culminating with last week’s Group 1 Gold Cup success at Albion Park.

Ring The Bell is a dual Group 1 finalist over the distance, reaching the highest level in the 2015 Sale Cup and 2016 Gold Cup. He was a winner at Sandown over the 715m in the lead up to the Sandown Cup series before running second to Zipping Kane in the heats of that event.

The BGRC will also be hosting “Super Night” in conjunction with the Superstayers Invitational which will include Open class races over each of the club’s five race starts (331m, 395m, 520m, 600m and 710m).

Superheroes are the theme, with appearances from a cast of superheroes including Batman and Wonderwoman on track.  There will be a jumping castle for the children and a photo booth available for those on track to capture the moment with their favourite superheroes.

The club will also be launching the ‘Superdog’ promotion, in which it has transformed the number 4 rug into the ‘Superdog’ rug and will shout the bar for patrons on course if the Superdog is successful in any event on the program.
