Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity Heats Preview

4 April 2016

Group racing returns to Albion Park on Thursday night with three heats of the time-honoured Bogie Leigh Futurity series set to be conducted in which qualifiers for the final will compete for $70,000 in total prizemoney.

Locally prepared chasers hold sway in terms of numbers with only four greyhounds making their Albion Park debut on Thursday night although the visiting quartet are sure to makes their presence felt when the boxes rise.

The first heat sees outstanding visitor Fabregal for Adelaide mentor Robyn Mackellar line up from box 1 and she appears to start a dominant favourite having built an incredible record of 13 wins and 7 placings from 20 starts. The daughter of Fabregas and Allinga Aye Jay will face-off with NSW visitor Vidi Vici for Judith Fisher, which looks the main threat after recording a dominant 29.74 victory at Wentworth Park two starts back.

Recent Group 2 Vince Curry Memorial Maiden winner Split Image (box 3) will start a popular elect in the second heat having adapted to Albion Park with a 30.08 victory over the 520 metres last month. The Tony Brett prepared chaser will be challenged by track specialist Wings Of Perlita for John Hutchinson who only missed a place for the first time in her 14 start career last week.

The final heat appears the most open with recent Easter Trophy winner Sheza Keen Size for Peter Ruetschi looking to makes amends from box 4 following an unplaced effort in the Winged Runner Trophy last week. Time For Abby (box 8) for local mentor Ross Ogden is the query runner stepping up in distance following scintillating victories over the 395 metre journey and boasting an impressive strike rate of 10 wins from 14 starts. NSW visitor Dokmai (box 7) looks the other main threat having compiled 12 wins from 24 starts including a dazzling 29.61 victory at Dapto when defeating Group 1 National Futurity finalist Natahli Dedee.

With three heats being run, first and second placegetters in each heat will progress with the fastest two third placegetters also advancing to next Thursday’s final.

In other events, recent Winged Runner Trophy winner Iona Champion lines up in the Free For All on the program and again faces off with combatants Cash In Motion (Robert Cooke) and Cyndie’s Magic (Bill Elson) in what shapes as another epic clash.

The first of ten races on a quality program at Albion Park kicks off at 6:47pm.
