Bill Elson’s star chaser Cyndie’s Magic added another feature race victory to an already stellar career with a dominant victory in the BGRC President’s Cup (710m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.
The three-time Group 1 placegetter was only fair to begin, as is her usual pattern, with littermate Abby’s Magic and Mullaway the best to begin, leading the field out of the straight the first time. Entering the back straight, the leaders came together briefly, allowing the $2.20 favourite Cyndie’s Magic to surge around the outside and claim the lead. Turning for home, she had established a winning break, going on to score by three and a quarter lengths in 42.24 seconds. Second place went to fast-finishing Obi Kenobi who made excellent ground from the rear of the field with Got A Brother for Peter Ruetschi a further six lengths back in third.
Cyndie’s Magic is likely to head towards the Queensland qualifiers of the AGRA National Distance Championship early next month.
It was the winner’s twenty-fifth win in eighty-one starts for Bill Elson and his wife Cynthia. The $7,175 winner’s cheque takes her career earnings to just shy of $227,000.
Time honours on the night went to Tony Brett’s Zabdon Ferrari, who recorded a fast 29.96 5th Grade victory after scorching through early splits of 5.48 and 11.43.
It was part of a winning treble for leading trainer Brett, who took out a fourth grade with Group 1 Winter Cup finalist Split Image and the final event on the card with Arabian Shredder.
